I have a lot of anxiety with going to the dentist. I was scheduled for a deep cleaning of my teeth that would be done in two separate appointments. When I went in for the first I had a new dental technician, which made me nervous, but I am so thankful for the care I received!! Kate was very understanding, compassionate, gentle & amazing - with a great sense of humor to boot! She did exceptional work that was pain-free & took my concerns/fears in stride. Best dental appointments ever!!!

I really like this dental office. The front desk really goes above and beyond to ensure patients are comfortable and understand their bill. They also are great at scheduling for your preferred timeframe. As others have mentioned in reviews, they sometimes do not answer the phone but I understand they are busy and if you call back during a non-peek time it is easier for them to answer. They also respond via text which especially helpful for me as I have phone anxiety and usually cannot call them because I am at work. The dental assistant who always sees me is my favorite. They are always so accommodating and sweet to me. I cannot tell you how much this means to me as I have very bad dental anxiety, and due to childhood neglect, I wasn’t able to keep up with my teeth. The dental assistant has never made me feel bad for the condition of my teeth and does everything they can to make me feel comfortable, even offering me a fidget when I sit down or to adjust the temperature, those little details are so appreciated. Dentist Petal is also incredibly amazing. He checks in with me to make sure I’m ok multiple times throughout the process. He leaves space for me to ask questions and he doesn’t shame me or make me feel bad for needing extensive dental work done. He also accommodates me in making the process less painful by providing a bite block. And I know he takes patient comfort very seriously. Dentist Bloom had always been amazing to me as well when I went to this office in 2018-2019, however, the last time I saw him recently in this office I left in tears and having a panic attack. I felt very judged and rushed by Doctor Bloom which felt very odd to me as he had always been very kind to me when I saw him in the past. I assume he was just very busy and not having a great day, and I know my teeth are in very bad condition, so that is probably overwhelming for him. It is very important to me to have a dentist who is understanding and has good bedside manner as I’ve put off going to the dentist for many years due to feeling judged or feeling my teeth were so bad I couldn’t fix it. I hope this was just a fluke as I really do not want to have to switch dentist offices. Overall, I think this office is a great place. They typically have very little wait time and most of the staff is very friendly, kind, compassionate, and understanding. That really goes a long way. I would recommend this dental office.

Did a great job fitting me in, and getting all my x-rays complete. Dentist is awesome and goes over and beyond to ensure anything that needs fixing is noted. Only thing is getting appointments sooner, but with Noone wanting to work these days I can understand.

Understanding Oral Biopsy: Unraveling the Mystery Behind Precise Diagnoses

Empowering Patients with Knowledge and Early Detection

When it comes to oral health, early detection and precise diagnoses are essential in ensuring timely and effective treatments. As part of our commitment to providing the highest standard of dental care, Union Street Dental offers various diagnostic tools, including oral biopsies. This procedure plays a crucial role in identifying potential oral health issues and guiding treatment plans, allowing us to empower our patients with knowledge and proactive care.

What is an Oral Biopsy?

An oral biopsy is a medical procedure in which a small sample of oral tissue is removed for laboratory analysis. The purpose of an oral biopsy is to diagnose various oral conditions, including suspicious lesions, lumps, discolorations, and other abnormalities that may indicate underlying health issues. Biopsies are typically recommended when there are concerns about the presence of oral cancer or other oral diseases.

Types of Oral Biopsies

There are different types of oral biopsies, each suited to specific circumstances. The three main types of oral biopsies are:

  • Incisional Biopsy: In this type of biopsy, a small portion of the abnormal tissue is removed for examination. It is commonly used when the entire lesion cannot be removed or when the area is too large for complete excision.
  • Excisional Biopsy: An excisional biopsy involves the complete removal of the suspicious tissue along with a small margin of surrounding healthy tissue. This method is employed when the lesion is small and easily accessible.
  • Brush Biopsy (OralCDx): A brush biopsy is a non-invasive procedure that uses a special brush to collect cells from the surface of the lesion. While this method can provide valuable information, it is often used as an initial screening tool before considering more invasive biopsies.

The Oral Biopsy Process

Understandably, the thought of an oral biopsy can be intimidating for some patients. However, it’s essential to recognize that this procedure is typically well-tolerated and can provide vital information for accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. Here’s what you can expect during the oral biopsy process:

  • Consultation: Your dentist will conduct a comprehensive examination and review your medical and dental history to determine if an oral biopsy is necessary.
  • Local Anesthesia: Before the biopsy, a local anesthetic will be administered to numb the area, ensuring minimal discomfort during the procedure.
  • Tissue Sample Collection: The biopsy is performed, and a small sample of the abnormal tissue is removed using one of the methods mentioned earlier (incisional, excisional, or brush biopsy).
  • Laboratory Analysis: The tissue sample is sent to a pathology laboratory for thorough analysis by a skilled pathologist. This process helps identify the nature of the tissue and whether any abnormalities, such as cancerous cells, are present.
  • Results and Follow-up: Once the laboratory results are available, your dentist will discuss the findings with you and recommend appropriate treatment, if needed.

The Importance of Early Detection

Early detection of oral health issues, particularly oral cancer, significantly improves the chances of successful treatment and positive outcomes. Regular dental check-ups, combined with timely oral biopsies when necessary, play a pivotal role in identifying potential concerns at their earliest stages.

Oral biopsies are invaluable tools in the world of dentistry and medicine, providing valuable insights into various oral health conditions. At Union Street Dental, we prioritize the well-being of our patients and use advanced diagnostic techniques like oral biopsies to ensure accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. Remember, early detection is the key to maintaining a healthy smile and overall well-being. If you have any concerns about your oral health or have noticed any unusual changes in your mouth, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with our experienced dental team.
